Cummins INSITE sometimes reports an invalid license even though your license keys are still there. We have logged this 12 times across two related problems: INSITE needing to revalidate its license, and a wrong PC clock making the license look invalid or expired. This post combines both, because the second check belongs in the same routine.
Symptoms
- INSITE shows a license error when it opens.
- A message says INSITE must connect to the internet and revalidate, or the license needs revalidation.
- Or: INSITE says the license is invalid or expired, even though it should still be active.
What causes it
For the revalidation cases, our notes do not record a deeper cause beyond INSITE needing to connect and revalidate the license. For the clock cases, the cause is recorded plainly: the PC clock was fast — in the draft notes, by even 1 minute.
If you are shopping or replacing a setup rather than fixing this install, our Cummins INSITE Pro software page is the product this post supports. For a broader starting point, see Getting started with Cummins INSITE.
Step-by-step fix
Start with revalidation:
- Make sure the laptop is connected to the internet (per the KF-019 draft).
- Restart the computer first, if needed (per KF-019).
- Open the License Control Tool / License Manager and click "Update Licenses" (or "Revalidate" if that is what appears).
- Install the latest updates via Update Manager.
- Reopen INSITE and check whether the license error is gone.
Then check the clock — do this every time, because it caused 4 of our 12 cases:
- Sync the Windows clock so the date and time are correct. The KF-020 draft describes using the Windows date/time settings, turning on automatic time, and using "Sync now".
- Update Licenses in Update Manager / License Manager.
- Install updates.
- Reopen INSITE.
If that didn't work
No further fix steps were recorded for KF-019 or KF-020. If INSITE still shows an invalid license after revalidation, a clock sync, and updates, use the contact form or email on this site and tell us the exact license message INSITE shows. Please do not assume your keys are gone — in the revalidation cases, the license keys were intact.
FAQ
My license keys are still listed. Can INSITE still say "invalid license"?
Yes. In the KF-019 cases, license keys were intact but INSITE said it must connect to the internet and revalidate, or showed a license error on launch.
Can a wrong clock really break the INSITE license?
Yes, in our recorded cases. KF-020 logs a license invalid/expired message caused by a PC clock that was fast, and the draft notes say even 1 minute off mattered.
What button am I looking for?
"Update Licenses" (or "Revalidate") in the License Control Tool / License Manager, per the recorded fix.
Should I reinstall INSITE for this error?
A reinstall is not the recorded fix for KF-019 or KF-020. Revalidate, check the clock, and install updates first.
